Alterations And Dressmaking

Hi, my name is Kristine Hughes and I run Stitches By Kristine.

I started sewing my own clothes when I was 11 years old, “stealing” fabrics from my mum’s stash. I was soon making clothes for my friends and family, and when I become a teen I used to spend Saturdays making my outfit for the evening. I went to college in Norway where I did 2 years of dressmaking and pattern making.

Fast forward to now, I live in leafy Surrey and have my own little sewing studio in my garden where I work with you one-to-one to make sure you have your perfectly fitted Wedding Dress, Bridesmaid Dress, Mother-Of -Bride/Groom or Prom Dress.

I have over 25 years of experience in Bridal Alterations and I look forward to helping you achieve your perfect look for your day.

The height of my career so far is that I have just finished working as a seamstress on series 12 of Call The Midwife where I did all of the dressmaking and some of the alterations. I worked closely with the actress who plays Trixie, Helen George, and the designer to make sure her clothes was perfect and fitting to the time the series was set. I chose the fabric and created the wedding dress she is wearing when she gets married at the end of this series.
